  • Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology

    Description

The Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology provides the complete spectrum of clinical neuroradiology with approximately 17`000 MRI scans, 8`000 CT scans and 1`500 angiograms and interventions per year.

The institute hosts a multidisciplinary imaging laboratory (SCAN, Prof. Wiest) where MR-physicists, computer engineers, neuroradiologists, neurologists and psychologists investigate new applications for advanced neuroimaging together with specialized radiographers and technicians. The main focus of research is the development of computer-assisted post-processing techniques for clinical applications in neuromedicine and neuroscience (in close collaboration with the ISTB; Prof. Reyes, the UPD translational research center, the neurocenter at the Inselspital, our international research and industrial partners). We aim to improve quantification of lesion load, regional brain atrophy and tissue-at risk estimation in frequent neurological disorders, e.g. stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors and epilepsy and to translate novel sequence technologies as non-hemodynamic field mapping, advanced MR-spectroscopy and multiband functional MRI into clinical practice.

The neurointerventional research group (INRG, Prof. Gralla) focuses on the continuous development and evaluation of revascularization procedures and treatment of aneurysms and vascular malformations in the nervous system.

The research of the Institute is carried out in close cooperation with various local, national and international clinical partners as well as with industrial partners on devices, neuroimaging and post-processing.
